20 tips to engage parents in early grades literacy

NCCAT faculty member Dr. Ernest Johnson will be leading a program "Engaging Parents in Early Grades Literacy" in March. Below are 20 ideas from Dr. Johnson to help teachers become engaged with parents to promote literacy.

Embedded within what K-5 teachers need to know about the life of their students are the literacy lessons we want teachers to introduce to parents.  Our program at NCCAT helps teachers to develop positive relationships with teachers so that they can help parents to develop their own compelling reason for using these literacy strategies with their child. Chances are excellent that a child will have less difficulties with reading if a parent takes these actions with their child.
