Happy Birthday to Dr. Seuss!

From seussville.com - Read Across America Day is a nationwide reading celebration that takes place annually on March 2 - Dr. Seuss’s birthday. Across the country, thousands of schools, libraries, and community centers participate by bringing together kids, teens, and books, and you can too! Incorporate these guides and activities to celebrate reading with young people.

Congratulations to Sarah Bratton, a third-grade teacher at Sycamore Elementary School in Raleigh, who is WRAL's Teacher of the Week on Match 4, 2015.

#Read4Fun chat each Sunday night

There is a interesting new chat for educators - #Read4Fun on Sunday nights after 7 p.m. The chat is hosted by Sean Gaillard, Principal of Wiley Magnet Middle School-STEAM, along with @jen___williams, @Dr_LMR, and @crockow8. March's challenge to the group is do 15 minutes of reading for fun a day.

Resources for mentoring new teachers

Teachers are in a critical profession and demanding one, especially in the early years. One-third of the teachers in the United States leave the profession after three years and nearly half leave by the fifth year. To quell this loss of talent in North Carolina schools, NCCAT conducts professional development programming designed for our state’s beginning teachers.Beginning teachers who have attended NCCAT programs in their first, second, or third year have a higher retention rate than that of the state or the nation.

Congratulations to Kelly King from West Henderson High School!

Congratulations to Kelly King from West Henderson High School in Henderson County for being named NCCAT’s Slater Family Honored Educator Scholar for 2015-2016! Mrs. King is at NCCAT this week participating in “Bring Your Own Technology: Digital Learning.”

This scholarship will cover all costs associated with Mrs. King’s participation, including program materials, instruction, food, lodging, travel, and a substitute.
