Growing up in the 60s and 70s had its good points and bad. I remember summers where my mom would tell me to go out and play and be home before the streetlights came on at night. We would be gone all day, no cell phones, parents knew we were safe and we would play outside all day long. We did not have video games, we made up games to play with our friends and occupied ourselves. Those are the good memories.
Helena Elementary School third-grade teacher Jamie Williammee recently told The Courier-Times about her time at NCCAT for the "Foundations of Math" program. “I attended five full days of intensive instruction and learned the importance of using precise math language within the classroom,” she said. “This training also provided an understanding of the basic principles of effective teaching and how to apply the understanding in my own math instruction.”
Where do you get your best ideas? What inspires you?
My best ideas come from colleagues, especially fellow NCCAT participants. All great ideas come from others... really! When I visit NCCAT, everyone discusses their best. Their best lessons, techniques, etc. are the answers to my questions. Being in that environment, you are given the time to reflect and decide how that can be used in your room.
