Henderson County teacher receives Honored Educator Scholarship

Congratulations to Sherry Coren of Hendersonville Middle School in the Henderson County Public Schools district on receiving the Gracia and John Slater Family NCCAT Honored Educator Scholarship. The Gracia and John Slater Family Honored Educator Scholarship pays tribute to the many members of the Slater family who dedicated their lives to education. Gracia Slater served as the director of development at NCCAT for 10 years, until her retirement in 2004. Gracia’s husband, John Slater, retired from Western Carolina University where he served as an associate professor and interim department head of communication, theatre and dance. Other members of the Slater family have varied educational careers as teachers and missionaries—from North Carolina to Georgia and as far away as China. NCCAT’s Gracia and John Slater Family Honored Educator Scholarship pays tribute to the family’s lifelong commitment to the teaching profession. Sherry attended "Developing Engagement and Understanding in Middle Grades Math" at NCCAT in Cullowhee this week. She is pictured with NCCAT Presenter Bonnie Coleman.
