Swain County teacher receives NCCAT Honored Educator Scholarship

Congratulations to Lynee Watson of Swain County East Elementary School in Swain County Schools, who received the Boyce T. Deitz NCCAT Honored Educator Scholarship this week.

This scholarship honors a native of Jackson County, Boyce T. Deitz, who graduated from Sylva-Webster High School and attended Western Carolina University. Upon graduation, he gained immediate local respect by returning to Sylva-Webster to coach. Then, from 1977 to 1997, Coach Deitz served as head football coach and athletic director at Swain County High School, winning five state championships, which ultimately established him as a coaching legend in the state.

The scholarship entitled Lynee to travel and substitute teacher reimbursement and $250 for her classroom. She is pictured with Michelle Benigo of The Science House at North Carolina State University during "Technology Tools to Enhance STEM." Great job Lynee!
