North Carolina has a strong commitment to improving schools and the courage to be at the leading edge of school reform in the nation. Our state consistently receives high marks for setting academic standards, assessing student performance and providing equitable resources. North Carolina is home to 117 school systems, 100 of which are county units and 17 of which are city units.
