Rockingham County Schools Takes Part in NCCAT Teacher Leadership Program

CULLOWHEE—During a Teacher Leadership Institute program 23 members of a Rockingham County Schools team focused on creating more teacher leaders while at the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching, a nationally recognized leader in professional development.

The four-day program in Cullowhee allowed educators the chance to work on efforts to help teacher leadership in the Rockingham County district. The new offering is designed to respond to the needs of school districts.

“We have digital learning coaches and Schoolnet teachers who we identified to come,” Rockingham County Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Charles Perkins said. “A big part of their coaching roles is to identify technology to help teachers use Schoolnet in the classroom. We developed some great relationships that will continue to grow in our district.”

Perkins said it was the first time several of the participants had been to NCCAT, and they came away with a meaningful experience.

“Because of our experience at NCCAT we are planning for this group of educators to meet monthly and continue to share ideas and solve issues,” Perkins said.
