Happy School Library Month!
From the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction ....
April is School Library Month. School library media coordinators often play a key role in helping students bridge the digital divide and close achievement gaps.
Did you know?
- Schools with certified school library media coordinators have higher graduation rates and test scores than those without.
- Higher student test scores are associated with school library media coordinators teaching information literacy skills to students.
- Students score better on their state tests in schools whose library programs are well funded.
- In schools where school library media coordinators lead professional development more often with their teachers, student test scores are higher.
- Students who are economically disadvantaged, have disabilities, and/or are minorities, but who have full-time school library media coordinators are at least twice as likely to have advanced writing scores than their counterparts who do not have full-time librarians.
