Graphic organizers have been used in classrooms for years to help students organize their thoughts, plan for writing assignments, visually link concepts, and brainstorm.  Web based mind maps allow significantly more options for students planning, organization, and products.  Mind maps such as Popplet have the standard organizational features you would experience with traditional paper/pencil mind mapping as well as the enhanced ability to upload multiple media types and collaborate.

Mind mapping graphic organizers promote thinking skills, such as classification, cause-effect, sequencing, compare/contrast, and relationships.  The benefits of web based mind-maps are the

opportunity for collaboration and multimedia options.
