NCCAT alum featured in story on effort at Piedmont middle school

Dayson Pasion and his students at Graham Middle School are learning about doing scientific research by doing.

They are taking part in the eMammal project. The groups website describes the project as where citizen scientists work in collaboration with researchers at the Smithsonian Institution and North Carolina State University to document mammals throughout the mid-Atlantic region, and soon, the entire country. Citizen volunteers place “camera traps”, infrared activated cameras, across the landscape in parks and other natural areas to collect photos of mammals. These photos help researchers answer questions about mammal distribution and abundance and use this information for conservation.

Pasion's class had been taking part and their work was feature on MyFox8. Click here for a link to the story. To see more of Pasion's work follow him on Twitter at @MrDpasion.

Congratulations to Dayson and his class! Great to see this work going on in North Carolina schools by possible future scientist.
