Part of building a hub for games and learning in North Carolina

NCCAT is proud to be partnering with the Institute of Play to bring some special offerings to North Carolina teachers.

Teacher Quest: An Introduction to Game-Based Learning by the Institute of Play will be offered in May and April. Learn research-based methods for using the natural human desire to be involved in “play” to enliven and enrich your classroom outcomes. Games and play can be powerful educational tools. Learn to meet your curricular goals by empowering students to collaboratively design solutions in an environment that encourages intellectual risks and deep engagement.

In this two-day workshop, facilitated by the Institute of Play, you will learn the fundamentals of game-based learning that engages students in core subject areas and master the art of centering teaching on the learner. Experience game-based learning practices as we create, modify, prototype, and play/test non-digital games of our own designs. Be ready to leave the workshop with workable play-based activities tailored to the needs of your students.

It is part of several efforts by Institute of Play in North Carolina. Institute of Play is already contributing our vital experience, perspective, and toolkit to the schools, informal learning spaces, institutions of research and teacher training, and game developers of North Carolina. Upcoming workshops include:

NCTIES on March 5th in Raleigh, with @BethanyVSmith from NC State
Museum of Life & Science in Durham, March 10th
Rainbow Community School in Asheville (March)
National Inclusion Project’s Power of Play conference in Raleigh (3/31)
