Reopening Mary D. McDuffie Honored Educator Scholarship application

NCCAT is currently in the process of taking applications for the Mary D. McDuffie Honored Educator Scholarship (HES) for FY 2018-2019! Normally, applications are taken from January 1 thru April 30. However, we did not receive enough qualified applicants, so we are re-opening the application process through August 31, 2018. For this year, the benefactor prefers responses from exemplary career U.S. History teachers who are working in middle schools or high schools in Northampton, Cumberland, or Brunswick school districts. Applications will be accepted through August 31, 2018. The link to our scholarship program is: https://www.nccat.org/programs/honored-educator-scholarship-application Instructions for applying for an HES are relatively self-explanatory. However, please note that this is a different application from the regular NCCAT application for programs. The teachers who apply for the scholarship should clarify that they are applying for the Mary D. McDuffie HES, and should read the instructions carefully, particularly for the essay questions. Grammar, spelling, and clarity of message all count when the committee scores applications. The Mary D. McDuffie Honored Educator Scholarship honors the lifelong dedication of Dr. McDuffie to the profession of teaching and education. With a career spanning over 35 years, Mary began as a history teacher and went on to such outstanding educational achievements as Teacher of the Year at Terry Sanford High School; Cumberland County Principal of the Year; Wachovia Southeast Regional Principal of the Year; North Carolina Principal of the Year; and the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, one of the most prestigious awards presented by the office of the Governor of North Carolina. After serving as a North Carolina Superintendent, Dr. McDuffie also served as NCCAT’s Executive Director from 2002–2011. Dr. Mary D. McDuffie passed away in 2013. Please call Dorcas Masson or Amy Stevens at 828-293-5202 with any questions.
