STEM draws crowd at Johnston County school

Enjoyed reading about this great idea from Johnston County schools.

From NC DPI ...

Ever since she started teaching her STEM classes last year, Cindy Raynor knew they were popular with students at River Dell Elementary School in Johnston County.

How could they not be? Where else in school do students have the chance to build catapults and shoot little candy pumpkins across the classroom? Or build boats from aluminum foil? Or learn science from popcorn – and then get to eat it?

But she didn’t fully appreciate just how much her students liked STEM – short for science, technology, engineering and math – until she invited families to attend an evening STEM program last month in partnership with The Engineering Place at N.C. State University, which provides outreach support to schools for STEM education.
