Teachers give high marks to NCCAT digital program

At NCCAT we always appreciate feedback on our programs. We were happy to see so many positive responses to “Strategies for Teaching and Learning in a Digital Environment” led by presenter Glenn Gurley in July. All 24 participants said they strongly agreed that the program provided valuable knowledge and skills.

The course in Cullowhee offered them a chance to discover strategies to engage students and examine ways to maximize classroom space and time. Participants gained confidence and skill as they seamlessly integrated digital tools into the curriculum. They plan to motivate students by developing technology-enriched learning experiences.

Here is what a few of them had to say …

Linda Anundson, West Montgomery High, Montgomery County

“My school system is going to a one-on-one technology initiative, so everything that was presented was valuable and useful to me.  I appreciate Mr. Gurley's effort to cover useful tools.”

“We had time to learn about the resources presented, but then we also had time to apply our learning.  I have created materials that I will be using during this coming school year as well as planned how to expand on what I have learned.”

“Students will be more engaged as they interact with many of the resources presented as well as the possibility of flipping my classroom to ensure basic learning at home and application/help in school.”

Sherrie Hayes, Cherryville High, Gaston County

“Glenn had all resources already set up and at the touch of a finger we were able to access materials through Symbaloo. We also had work time in order to practice.”

“I can't wait to implement the technology that I learned about this week. I know that this will help me to be a more effective teacher and reach the 21st century learners.”

Jamie McSwain, Cherryville High, Gaston County

“I think using more technology will engage my students and meet them where they are, enable to me to build better relationships, and spend less time grading papers hopefully using some techniques I have learned.”

Erin Hoover, Covington Street Elementary, Scotland County

“The most valuable skills that I will take from this program are the different computer programs that I have learned to use over this week.  My students will benefit from my new knowledge.”

“This session has been absolutely wonderful.  My eyes have been opened to many new technological programs, apps, and practices that will benefit my students for years to come.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I can't wait to come back!!”

Susan Martin, Mount Olive Elementary, Stokes County

“The VAST amount of information was effectively presented to a variety of grade levels and persons with a wide range of technical ability.”

Susan Wood, East Forsyth Middle, Winston-Salem/Forsyth Schools

“I love that I will be able to use the iPad I plan to buy to use as a document camera in my classroom. That is something I will be able to use every day in my classroom.  I think that some of the sound programs that we learned about are easier to use and will be more successful than Audacity that I tried to use last year.  Even our technology guy could not help at all with it.”

Randall Siler, Grover C. Fields Middle, Craven County

“The actual tools needed to create a flipped classroom - video presenters and creators, blendspace and more. This provides real opportunity to be successful. I also plan to use a few of the student interactive and creativity apps and programs. I will return to my school with a full and very useful toolbox. Thanks much, Mr. Gurley.”
