15246 - Teaching Fractions for Authentic Understanding - Cullowhee

Designed for teachers of grades 3—6

Fraction work doesn’t have to be just another set of rules; students can experience true understandings of fractions. This program will help teachers develop strategies for teaching fractions that go beyond the rules. Teachers will collaborate to vertically align and make sense of problem-solving with fractions for conceptual understanding. Hands-on time with manipulatives and models will be included to explore these strategies. In addition, teachers will experience how to use whole number properties when teaching fractions to develop deeper connections.
