15618 Best Practices for Motivating Reluctant Readers - Ocracoke

Designed for teachers in grades 3-8

This program will help you to expand your literacy tool kit with strategies for motivating reluctant readers. In this program, we will explore three powerful motivations that drive student reading: (1) interest, (2) dedication, and (3) confidence. An interested student reads because they enjoy it; a dedicated student reads because they believe it is important, and a confident student reads because they can do it. This program will examine classroom-ready tips to get readers interested and excited about reading. You will learn about the value of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation in today s classroom and discover strategies for using graphic novels and writing to motivate your reluctant readers.
