From The Asheville Citizen-Times - NCCAT alumnae and Evergreen Community Charter School teacher Karen Lechner tackles John Muir trail to raise funds for her school. Good luck Karen!
From the article ...
Karen Lechner has long dreamed of backpacking the 211-mile John Muir Trail through the high Sierras of California. The Asheville schoolteacher has even gotten her coveted permit for the solo trek starting in June.
But while she's living her dream, she wants to make sure her students fulfill their dreams as well.
On #TeacherTuesday in the NCCAT social media feeds we are once again reminded that weather can't stop teachers from across North Carolina from getting together to share and learn. Here's a link to the Storify from today's #ncsnowchat at link below. Thanks to NCCAT alum Lisa Milstead for putting this together. Exciting to see all these educators sharing!
Amanda Casto, a teacher at Druid Hills Academy in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, might be better known as that @ThatMathLady to educators on Twitter.
Once Casto joined Twitter, there was no turning back as she found a great way to connect with other teachers and keep learning going.
"It has been amazing to me how many connections I've made and people I've been able to interact with because of Twitter," Casto said. "It is something that grew organically and put me in touch with ideas and educators that have been so helpful in my career as an educator."
NCCAT alumna Allison Stewart is a third grade teacher at Frank Porter Graham School in Chapel Hill. She and another educator have written a grant in hopes of winning some money for the school library.

Region 4: Mariel Barker Sellars, East Columbus High (Columbus County Schools);
We were excited to read about NCCAT alumnus Joshua Gaskill in this recent article from the New Bern Journal Sun. The story begins ...
"Students in Joshua Gaskill’s history class find out quickly that his plan is about more than just memorizing dates and events.
He wants them to know the story behind the historical line scores and to give thought to how events even hundreds of years ago relate to today’s world.
His own story is compelling – a 2003 Pamlico graduate who looked at engineering and medicine before settling on a career as an educator.
