NCCAT Announces Changes to Board of Trustees

CULLOWHEE - The North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching announces a new Chairman and Vice Chairman to its Board of Trustees. The Board recently elected Dr. Aaron L. Fleming as Chairman and Vice Chair Jeffery T. Clark. The Board also thanked Linda Daves the previous Board of Trustees Chairman and Fletcher "Gene" McIntyre for their vital service to the Board.

At their May 3 meeting in Raleigh, the officer changes occurred. NCCAT Executive Director Dr. M. Brock Womble thanked Mrs. Daves, and Mr. McIntyre for their many efforts in leadership positions on the Board and welcomed Dr. Fleming and Mr. Clark to their new roles.

"We are fortunate to have individuals like these with a wealth of knowledge who are willing to work actively for education in North Carolina," Womble said. "NCCAT thanks them all for their support and efforts for teachers in our state."

Fleming is currently serving as superintendent of Harnett County Schools. He has been with the district since Feb. 1, 2017. Fleming is a product of the North Carolina public schools and is a graduate of South Rowan High School in China Grove. He received bachelor's and master's degrees in agricultural education from N.C. State University, a master's in school administration from Appalachian State University and is currently pursuing a doctorate in educational leadership at Wingate University.

Fleming started his career as an Agricultural Education teacher and FFA (formerly Future Farmers of America) Advisor at Central Cabarrus High School in Concord and later at Clayton High School in Johnston County. He then worked as the Career and Technical Education Director in Wilkes and Lee counties. Fleming later served as an education policy advisor to the North Carolina Speaker of the House before starting his work in Harnett County.

Clark, of Jacksonville, NC, is the Chief Executive Officer of Jones-Onslow Electric Membership Corporation. The Dade City, Florida native, has more than 45 years of experience working in the electrical cooperative industry. Mr. Clark came to Jones-Onslow in 2000 as the Manager of Finance & Accounting. In 2001 he was promoted to Vice President of Finance & Accounting and in 2002 to Chief Financial Officer before being promoted to his current position of CEO in 2016.
