NCCAT Celebrates Samantha Shaw as Empower NC Beginning Teacher of the Year Runner-Up

The North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) proudly recognizes Samantha Shaw, an English teacher at Carrboro High School City Schools, as the runner-up for the (NCCAT) 2024 Empower NC Beginning Teacher of the Year award. The accolade was bestowed upon Shaw during a recent gathering at the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Board of Education.

During the celebratory event, Shaw's dedication and innovative teaching methods were highlighted. Described as a teacher with comprehensive lesson plans tailored to meet every student’s needs, Shaw excels in motivating her students through meaningful relationship building. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes providing students with space to express their ideas freely and approaching challenges with a unique perspective.

NCCAT Executive Director M. Brock Womble and NCCAT Deputy Executive Director Karen Sumner were honored to join friends of NCCAT Xavier Adams and Eugenia Floyd at the recognition ceremony. Their presence underscored NCCAT's commitment to honoring excellence in education.

The Empower NC Beginning Teacher of the Year award process is designed to honor beginning teachers who exhibit promise as outstanding educators and leaders in North Carolina's public schools and public charter schools.
