NCCAT will hold a four-session series exploring best practices for K-5 math instruction. The instructional components shared in this series lead to strong classroom structures that embrace mathematical thinking and honor students’ instructional needs. Attend all four and earn an NCCAT math badge or attend individual sessions to deepen your own understanding of effective math instruction.
This class will focus on conceptual teaching and building number sense. Best practices for using the Conceptual-Representation-Abstract model will be shared along with routines for building students’ number sense. We will delve into manipulative work and consider approaches to introducing students to new math concepts. Strategies and resources for integrating number talks in your math block will also be explored.
