Math Professional Learning Sessions Available Now

Kick off the 2021-22 school year with NCCAT math professional learning. A variety of sessions are being offered throughout the summer that are innovative and timely for our NC math classrooms. Fill your instructional toolbox this summer with these great virtual and in-person offerings.

June 30: Embracing Math Vocabulary- Virtual (10:00-11:30 am)

What are the essential math vocabulary words that educators should be teaching for deep understanding? Join this virtual session to discover these foundational terms and learn new strategies for teaching math vocabulary beyond memorization. This session is designed for teachers in grades K-8.

 

July 13-16: Creating Math Communities and Connecting Learners

We know math classrooms should be places where all students are empowered to think as mathematicians, so how do we create these communities for students in our care? Join NCCAT to learn innovative strategies that build classroom cultures of active care and engage students in mathematics thinking. This 4-day program will focus on building classroom cultures, problem-solving, and study skills. Time will be included for teachers to write or revise their syllabus for the upcoming school year and put these new strategies to practice. This session is for math teachers in grades 4-9.

 

July 27-28: Math Collaborative- Virtual

Join NCCAT for this two day virtual event to learn new instructional strategies and engage in round table sessions. Sessions will be presented to strengthen your math instructional toolbox including: Differentiation, English Language Learners strategies, problem-solving routines, digital learning, problem-based learning, vertical alignment, and reading in the math classroom. Leave ready to kick off the 2021-2022 school year with fresh ideas for your math classroom. A variety of sessions will be offered throughout the day for elementary and secondary math classrooms.

 

August 3: Planning Math Instruction to Reach All Learners- Virtual (10:00-11:30 am)  OR  August 19: Planning Math Instruction to Reach All Learners- In-person

Focusing on acceleration to grade-level learning is critical while planning for math instruction. How do we focus on students’ needs and plan lessons that provide access to grade-level concepts? Join this program to learn best practices for re-engaging students in prior learning for success with grade-level concepts. This one-day program will explain the guidance from NCTM among others and demonstrate a planning protocol that will empower teachers to design acceleration lessons with confidence. This program is for math teachers in grades 3-8.
