NCCAT Presents Recipe for Problem Solving K-5 in September at Cullowhee

The North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) is excited to announce an upcoming professional development program, "Recipe for Problem Solving K-5," scheduled for September. This innovative training is specifically designed for K-5 teachers and will be led by esteemed research scholars from the William and Ida Friday Institute for Education Innovation.

The "Recipe for Problem Solving K-5" program aims to provide a comprehensive introduction to computational thinking and practical teaching strategies. Throughout the training, participants will delve into the fundamentals of computational thinking, coding, and the use of age-appropriate programming tools that can be seamlessly integrated into their classrooms.

Key components of the training include:

  • Fundamentals of Computational Thinking: Understanding the core principles that underpin problem-solving in computer science.
  • Coding and Programming Tools: Hands-on experience with coding activities and tools suitable for young learners.
  • Lesson Plan Development: Guidance on writing engaging lesson plans that incorporate computational thinking, aligned with North Carolina content standards, K-5 computer science standards, and Digital Learning Standards for Students.

By the end of the training, teachers will be equipped with the confidence and skills needed to create and implement creative, standards-based lessons that enhance student engagement and learning.
