Focus Friday: NCCAT Literacy Badge available

Come be a part of NCCAT’s daylong professional development session. Breakfast and lunch is included. A limited number of rooms are available if you need to arrive the night before.

CULLOWHEE—The North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching will begin a five-session series of one day professional learning programs to enable teachers to earn an NCCAT Literacy Badge. Attend all five and earn the badge or attend individual sessions of your choice based on interest and need. The programs will be at the NCCAT Cullowhee campus from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Fridays from November through February.

The Focus Friday programs offer teachers the opportunity to look into a variety of topics while at NCCAT,  a recognized national leader in professional development programming for teachers, for a day. Come be a part of NCCAT’s daylong professional development session. Breakfast and lunch is included. A limited number of rooms are available if you need to arrive the night before.

Phonological Awareness

November 2, 2018

Phonics

December 7, 2018

The understanding of the systematic and predictable relationships between written letters and spoken sounds—which directly impacts children’s ability to read words both in isolation and in connected text.

Fluency

January 18, 2019

The ability to read a text accurately, quickly and with expression—as a bridge between word recognition and comprehension.

Robust Vocabulary

February 8, 2019

Instruction, which includes the listening, speaking, reading and writing components needed for beginning reading success.

Comprehension

February 15, 2019

The essence of reading—and the purposeful strategies needed to ensure readers have the tools for making meaning every day.
