Increasing teacher effectiveness is fundamental to improving public education. NCCAT provides teachers with knowledge, skills, teaching methods, best practices and information to take back to their classrooms.

History:

In 1985, the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) was established to aid in fostering the continual intellectual and professional development of North Carolina teachers. Our programming, whether residential, school based, virtual, or online, focuses on the transfer of research into practice. Regardless of specific content, NCCAT programs provide best practice instruction to help teachers support our NC students. NCCAT is dedicated to ensuring that every week, every day, every moment, we are true to the mission with which we were charged – retaining and growing NC teachers. We strive to build teachers’ capacity with the best professional learning experience.

NCCAT provides teachers with new knowledge, skills, teaching methods, best practices and information to take back to their classrooms through high-quality professional development. The ultimate result is improved performance and achievement by North Carolina’s students. For more than three decades NCCAT has provided teacher professional learning at our campuses in Cullowhee and Ocracoke. We have expanded to online, school based, regional and district options. All designed to support student learning in North Carolina. We serve every school district in North Carolina.
