The North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) is a recognized leader in professional development for teachers.

NCCAT provides intensive cross-disciplinary seminars and programs, as well as longer-term sustained professional development for priority areas such as support for beginning teachers. Many of the seminars and programs take place on the NCCAT campuses, however, some programs are held on-site in schools across NC. All seminars and programs are aligned with the Common Core State Standards, North Carolina Essential Standards, and Professional Teaching Standards.

The mission is accomplished through a wide range of methods including Socratic discourse, experience-based study, and blended learning options. Position Summary
The Director of Programming works independently, reporting to the Executive Director of NCCAT and serving on the leadership team. This position is the administrative lead for the entire programming team on both campuses and is responsible for the development of long- and short-term goals to achieve center objectives.

The Director of Programming is responsible for leading all programming staff members in accomplishing the priorities, goals, and actions outlined in the NCCAT Strategic Plan. He/she oversees the programming faculty in the research, development, and implementation of intensive cross-disciplinary seminars and other center programs designed to provide the highest quality professional development for North Carolina public school teachers, administrators, and other public school educators. The incumbent keeps current on educational best practices, research findings, state and national educational initiatives, and adult learning theory in order to provide superior professional development experiences. The Director of Programming acts as mentor and coach to programming personnel and is responsible for the performance evaluation of team members. He/she works closely with the Development Office to produce grant proposals and oversee all program-related grants, ensuring effective research, submission, and facilitation of all grant-funded programs. The Director of Programming also performs other programming-related duties including outreach, serving on professional committees and boards, and public relations/information activities around the state and nation. The person in this position serves as a representative of NCCAT, acting to promote awareness of the center, its objectives, and value among various constituents. The Director of Programming oversees institutional research, educational publications, program-related grant submissions and public information activities, and liaisons with other educational organizations, and organizational boards. The Director of Programming oversees professional development for the program team members. He/she coordinates state and national educational conference presentations.

Education, Experience, and Competencies:
The Director of Programming must possess:

A terminal degree in education or related field from an accredited higher education institution.
An established reputation as an educator and scholar, preferably in North Carolina.
Experience in diverse areas including K–16 education, pedagogy, arts, sciences, and the humanities.
Proven skills in leading at the individual and organizational levels.
A strong record of success in grant writing and grant management.
A thorough knowledge of adult learning theory.
Experience with the design and implementation of programs and seminars for public school educators.
A strong commitment to innovation, cross-disciplinary methodology, and inquiry-based instruction.
Excellent interpersonal communication and presentation skills, including the ability to relate to diverse constituencies.
The ability and willingness to travel extensively and to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.
The ability to lead individuals and teams to accomplish NCCAT strategic priorities.
The ability to make strategic recommendations to the Executive Director and the leadership team in support of the goals, objectives and priorities of the center.
The ability to handle complex situations and multiple responsibilities simultaneously, balancing long-term projects with the urgency of immediate demands related to programming.
The skills to collaborate with and achieve actionable results through others, the ability to build strong and sustainable relationships, and the capability to interact within all levels of the organization.
The ability to communicate effectively both internally and externally about the directions and priorities of the center, and assist in strengthening the center’s capacity for obtaining external funding. The ideal candidate excels in relationship-building and networking with a wide range of constituents.
The ability to problem-solve and to work cooperatively with the leadership team, directors, managers, supervisors, and senior staff.
The ability to plan and conduct special assignments as delegated by the Executive Director and perform other duties as assigned.
