"March Maker Madness" event set for Buncombe County

Chris Cutshall, a National Board Certified Teacher at North Buncombe Middle School, came to our Maker program in November and is already sharing what she learned with her school.

Cutshall and her school are hosting "March Maker Madness" at North Buncombe Middle School on Monday, March 23, 2015 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Part of the invitation to others to take part is below.

"We would love to invite you and your students to be involved with our March MAKER Madness event coming to North Buncombe Middle School on Monday, March 23, 2015 from 6pm - 7:30pm. Our AIG students have been working on using more STEAM activities in class; seventh graders are creating paper roller coasters to learn more about motion and forces while my eighth graders are designing interactive museum exhibits using modern technologies like Makey Makeys, Raspberry Pis, and automatons. All these creations will be on display and everyone in attendance will be invited to take part in the exhibits. Allison McDevitt's Project Lead The Way classes will be demonstrating their robotics work, the Future City competition creations, and other great engineering work. Laura Norris' art students will be hosting "make-it-take-it" art stations, displaying their artistic masterpieces from class, and encouraging our visitors to come together through the creation of a community quilt using fabric from Laura's visit to Africa. There will be a little something for everyone!"

Great job by Chris! Glad to see this work going on in North Carolina schools.

Chris joined us for "Digital Learning Through Making and Doing: Mechatronics, Robotics, and the "Maker Movement" in Cullowhee. Participants were able to engineer real solutions to real problems using a combination of digital methods and real-world technology that are inexpensive and easy to deploy or reuse for student purposes.
