Shanna Good Awarded NCCAT Lynda Petty Honored Educator Scholarship for 2023-2024

The North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) is proud to announce Shanna Good, a Math and ELA Teacher at Trinity Middle School in Randolph County Schools, as the recipient of the NCCAT Lynda Petty Honored Educator Scholarship for the 2023-2024 period. The NCCAT Honored Educator Scholarship covers all expenses related to participation in an NCCAT program, including program materials, instruction, food, lodging, transportation, and substitute teacher costs. Additionally, the honored educator receives a $250 grant for use in their classroom. Applications for the 2024-2025 NCCAT Honored Educator Scholarships are currently open until April 30th.

These self-paced modules offer valuable professional development opportunities for North Carolina licensed teachers, with participants able to earn either 5 or 10 contact hours depending on the course. NCCAT had the honor of attending the Haywood County Schools Board of Education Meeting on Monday night, where we celebrated the outstanding achievement of Abigail Bentley, a teacher at Pisgah High School. Abigail was recently named the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) 2024 Empower NC Beginning Teacher of the Year! Dive into the fascinating world of tabletop gaming and design thinking with our upcoming program - "Your Move: Harnessing Design Thinking using Tabletop Games" at NCCAT Cullowhee! Participants will learn a variety of contemporary game mechanics then tap into design thinking approaches to build original tabletop games and consider how this experience might be used to create powerfully engaging classroom lessons. Sessions coming up in May and July.
