Join us as we explore strategies that allow all students to thrive and grow into successful mathematicians who ask questions, engage in math discourse, and think critically. Badge one will focus on core instructional models and mathematical discourse. Badge two will examine conceptual teaching and learning through the concrete-representational-abstract (CRA) model. Badge three will explore research-based number sense routines that support students’ reasoning skills. Badge four will investigate problem-solving routines that embrace the eight mathematical practices. This program is open to math teachers in grades 5-8.

We are participating in LETRS professional learning, now what?  Instructional coaches often find themselves answering the question from teachers…what does this look like in practice?  Instructional coach participants will delve into each of the eight units within LETRS professional learning, highlighting the key takeaways to support core instruction.  Instructional coaches will leave with the tools needed to support teachers in: implementing effective small-group instruction, teaching phonics, vocabulary instruction, leading instruction to guide thinking processes, and foundational writing skills. This program is intended for K-5 instructional coaches who support LETRS implementation in their schools.

Sessions will include models for co-teaching moves, providing strength-based feedback, and high-impact instructional strategies. Time will be spent collaborating with coaches from across NC, and learning new ways to connect with your teachers and their classrooms. This program is intended for K-12 instructional coaches.

Feedback overload, not enough time, lack of student engagement, and artificial intelligence: all of these factors and more can make the art of teaching writing challenging in a high school classroom. In spite of these challenges, we know that writing well allows students to process and organize their thoughts and feelings and to communicate effectively with a range of audiences. In this seminar, we will examine how to introduce various writing techniques to your students while providing useful, timely feedback that doesn't overwhelm the student or teacher. We will also examine ways to find a balance between utilizing available technology and getting students to write off screen. Participants will practice producing different modes of writing, receiving and giving feedback, and collaborating on best practices for supporting teenage writers. This program is intended for classroom teachers and coaches in grades 9-12.

In this hands-on session you'll explore how you might use maker activities in your classroom to promote learning, foster engagement, and build innovation and creativity in your students.
