Join NCCAT in April for program "It’s Time: Empowering Problem-Solvers" in Cullowhee. Now more than ever, it is time to empower our math learners with strategies that honor students’ strengths and propel problem-solving forward. In this session, we will discuss student-centered practices that move learning beyond simply finding the “correct answer.” We will learn strategies for problem-solving instructional routines as well as protocols to facilitate tasks in the math classroom. Authentic problem-solving needs engagement, supports, and encouragement.

Creating and Fostering the Entrepreneurial Spirit in Ocracoke

Exciting program going on at NCCAT Ocracoke now - "Creating and Fostering the Entrepreneurial Spirit." What is an entrepreneur? How do Family and Consumer Sciences Education and Business, Finance, and Marketing teachers help students explore connecting their creative interests to entrepreneurship? We will learn about career opportunities in a small tourist town and talk to business owners to learn how their entrepreneurial spirit launched their businesses. We will connect how learning local environments plays an important role in a successful business.

Flex Your Reading Instruction program in Ocracoke

Teachers from across North Carolina joined us for "Flex Your Reading Instruction" in Ocracoke. Student choice is a powerful way to engage students and ignite learning. Session participants were able to learn about how the Flex model of Blended Learning can provide students with choices about how they read, discuss, and analyze texts in collaborative learning groups. Participants collaborated with colleagues to write an implementation plan and develop resources to use with students.

Expanding your Digital Toolbox in Cullowhee with NCCAT

Teachers from across North Carolina joined us for "Expanding Your Technology Toolbox" in Cullowhee this week. Thank you! The program incorporates hands-on experiences with inexpensive technology that could be used to enhance instruction. Participants will explore these digital tools as students to best determine how to use them effectively as teachers, then leave NCCAT with a virtual toolbox of new techniques to take back to the classroom. We thank them for their efforts and look forward to hear about how they impact their classrooms in the days ahead.
