CULLOWHEE - Sixty-two North Carolina Teaching Fellows representing five universities were at NCCAT in Cullowhee on April 5-6.
NCCAT alumnae wins North Carolina Teacher of the Year
Mariah Morris, a second-grade teacher at West Pine Elementary School in Pinehurst, has been named the 2019 Burroughs Wellcome Fund North Carolina Teacher of the Year. Morris has attended professional development programs at the North Carolina Center for the Advancement, a recognized national leader in professional development for teachers.

CULLOWHEE - NCCAT Senior STEM Innovator Darcy Grimes participated in an event to encourage student entrepreneurs recently at Cherokee Central School.
Coaches: Leading the Math Way coming to NCCAT in May
School coaches can refine their math coaching strategies and develop new avenues to coach colleagues during "14876 - Coaches Leading the May Way" at the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching in Cullowhee May 20-23.
Teachers work with NCCAT on National Board Certification
CULLOWHEE – Teachers from across North Carolina joined other initial candidates for a weekend of facilitated support and collaboration to work on components two–four of their National Board certification submission at the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching, a recognized national leader in professional development for teachers.
Participants were expected to have a draft of at least one component before attendance. Best practices for completing components were shared.

McDowell County educators experience NCCAT Teacher Leadership Experience
CULLOWHEE - Teachers from 14 schools across the McDowell County School district recently participated in professional development sessions created to meet their needs and goals at the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching, a recognized national leader in professional development for teachers.
“Teacher Leadership Institute: McDowell County” allowed participants to engage in discussion of leadership principles, personal leadership traits, teacher leadership in schools, group dynamics and other aspects of leadership.
Literacy Badge program successful at NCCAT
CULLOWHEE - Teachers from across North Carolina completed the first North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) Literacy Badge program. Teachers could attend all five and earn the badge or attend individual sessions of your choice based on interest and need. The effort was part of the new Focus Friday program,
