CULLOWHEE (February 5, 2016)—Robin Sechrist is the only Academic or Intellectually Gifted (AIG) teacher at Efland Creeks Elementary School in Orange County, so when she had the chance to join other teachers at “How Do Gifted Students Grow? AIG Concepts and Digital Resources” she jumped at the chance. And she is glad she did.
Sechrist and 26 other teachers took part in the January program at the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching, a national leader in professional development.

CULLOWHEE (January 15, 2016)—For the fourth time EdCampWNC will be held at the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching, a national leader in professional development. The event will take place Saturday April 23 in Cullowhee.

NCCAT's Honored Educator Scholarship (HES) program pays tribute to outstanding educators and individuals by providing scholarship funds in their names. Scholarship funds can be named in honor of classroom teachers, coaches, administrators, school board members, or community volunteers—anyone whose teaching or influence in public education has made a positive difference in the lives of others. Each fully endowed scholarship is awarded annually to a North Carolina teacher based on criteria determined by the scholarship benefactor.
CULLOWHEE (December 14, 2015)—The BB&T Charitable Foundation of Winston-Salem awarded $15,000 for a second year to support the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching’s Teacher Leadership Institutes (TLIs).
CULLOWHEE (December 11, 2015)—North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching Board of Trustees Chairman Linda Daves and future Executive Director Dr. M. Brock Womble visited the western North Carolina campus Dec. 8–9.
Daves and Womble talked with staff at a meeting on campus, visited with teachers from across the state of North Carolina who were on campus attending two programs during the week and met with Western Carolina University Chancellor David Belcher during their visit.
CULLOWHEE (December 3, 2015)—The 2014–2015 North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching annual report has been released. NCCAT remains focused on impacting students, supporting teachers, and responding to state initiatives. NCCAT more than doubled the number of teachers served from two years ago.

In early November, the North Carolina Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa’s first cohort of Emerging Leaders gathered together in Cullowhee at the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching, recognized national leader in professional development programming for teachers.
Twenty of North Carolina’s top leaders spent a day and a half learning about change leadership. Melissa Nixon, Director of Title I Guilford Public Schools, wrote a blog about the experience.
