CULLOWHEE (April 24, 2015)—Amy Jo Spencer, a distinguished career educator, has been named senior literacy specialist at the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching, a recognized national leader in professional development for teachers. NCCAT Executive Director Richard Thompson announced the appointment, effective June 29th.

Spencer has been a presenter at NCCAT the last two years in the “Reading, Writing, and Ready by Third Grade: An Early Grades Literacy Course.” She also attended NCCAT as a teacher.

CULLOWHEE (April 15, 2015)—Gaston County Schools have quickly put into practice work they began at the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching, a recognized national leader in professional development for teachers.

CULLOWHEE (April 1, 2015)—James Phillips thought he was just talking about the ups and downs of being a first year teacher with his mother Dorcas. He learned later, to his delight, that he was speaking to a future colleague in education.

Registration for the summer professional development programs with the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) is open. Applicants are encouraged to register as soon as possible to ensure a spot. Programs are available to North Carolina educators at the Cullowhee and Ocracoke campuses, online and with NCCAT fellows visiting school districts.

CULLOWHEE (February 24, 2015)—Educators gathered together at the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching January 26–29 in Cullowhee to learn more about Google Chromebooks—ahead of the rollout of the devices in Davidson County Schools.

Instructors from Martin County and Transylvania County, which have had similar rollouts of the devices, were on hand to share tips and answer questions. Greg Cline, chief technology officer for Davidson County Schools, says the school system has a three-year plan for dispersing the small laptops.

The program "Bring-Your-Own-Technology: Digital Learning" is coming up soon in Cullowhee. Join us March 10-13 to take part in this learning opportunity.
