CULLOWHEE, N.C. — Twenty-seven educators from across North Carolina have been selected as finalists for the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) 2026 Burroughs Wellcome Fund NC Beginning Teacher of the Year Award. These outstanding educators are recognized for their dedication, innovation, and ability to inspire students to succeed.

CULLOWHEE – Xavier Adams, an Orange County High School teacher in Orange County Schools, was named the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) 2022 Prudential NC Beginning Teacher of the Year in a special ceremony at the John W. Bardo Fine and Performing Arts Center on the campus of Western Carolina University Thursday, February 17, 2022.

Macon County Teacher Named NCCAT 2021 Prudential NC Beginning Teacher of the Year
CULLOWHEE – Emilee Higdon, a High School English teacher at Union Academy of Macon County Schools, was named the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) 2021 Prudential NC Beginning Teacher of the Year in a special ceremony at the Liston B. Ramsey Regional Activity Center on the campus of Western Carolina University Thursday, April 15, 2021.
The award was presented for the second time with finalists from across the state in attendance.

Teachers from across North Carolina have been selected as finalists for the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) 2021 Prudential NC Beginning Teacher of the Year Award in honor of their dedication, innovation, and ability to inspire students to achieve.
One of these talented educators will be named the NCCAT 20201 Prudential NC Beginning Teacher of the Year. The award is scheduled to be presented on April 15, 2021, at the NCCAT Cullowhee Campus.

Mooresville Graded School District teacher named NCCAT Beginning Teacher of the Year
CULLOWHEE – Leanne Rose, a second-grade teacher at Park View Elementary School in the Mooresville Graded School District, was named the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) Beginning Teacher of the Year in a special ceremony Thursday, December 5, 2019.
The award was presented for the first time at the NCCAT Cullowhee Campus with finalist from across the state in attendance.
