NCCAT will sponsor five (5) teacher spots to attend the Holocaust Educator Seminar in Poland, scheduled for July 19-27, 2026. Most expenses for the trip, including flights, lodging, some meals, and activities, will be included. Selected participants would return with significant expertise in the fields of Holocaust and Genocide Education.

The North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) proudly announces Michaelle Overman, a Health Science teacher at Perquimans High School in Perquimans County Schools, as the NCCAT 2026 Burroughs Wellcome Fund NC Career & Technical Education (CTE) Teacher of the Year. The award was presented at a special ceremony held at the Koury Convention Center in Greensboro, NC on Thursday, December 4, 2025.
NCCAT in the Classroom: Explore the Immersive World of Fluencia
Holly Day, an ESL teacher at East Rowan High School, attended NCCAT's "Gamify Secondary Literacy" program in June.
Following the week of game mechanics, literacy strategies, and adrenaline-driven learning, Holly returned to her classroom, inspired. She used the tools she learned in Cullowhee to form an immersive fantasy world for her students, called Fluencia.

Educator Spotlight: Asheville City Schools Educator Finds Inspiration Through NCCAT
For Malorie Morrill Lewis, an Instructional Coach at Lucy S. Herring Elementary School in Asheville City Schools, a return trip to the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) marked another important step forward in her journey to support students and educators.
Lewis, who works with Kindergarten through 5th grade teachers in math, reading, and science, first experienced NCCAT at a program in Ocracoke. This time, she participated in the “Student-Centered Instructional Coaching K–12” program at NCCAT’s Cullowhee campus.
