NCCAT Online presents "Supporting Students as Problem Solvers in the Math Classroom."

School coaches can refine their math coaching strategies and develop new avenues to coach colleagues during "14876 - Coaches Leading the May Way" at the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching in Cullowhee May 20-23.

CULLOWHEE—The North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching strives to meet the current and future needs of North Carolina teachers. As a result, our two new faculty members will lead math and STEM professional learning. Senior Math Specialist Dr. Bonnie Bolado will support teachers incorporating math standards and digital learning into their instruction and Senior STEM Innovator Darcy Grimes will provide hands-on STEM lessons to help teachers prepare students for an ever-changing world.

CULLOWHEE—The Smoky Mountain Math Teachers’ Circle (SMMTC), a professional learning community for mathematics teachers in Western North Carolina, gathered for its fourth annual Summer Math Camp July 1–3 at the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching.

CULLOWHEE—Teachers explored creative, classroom-friendly activities to build mathematical fluency during “Task, Tools, and Talk to Support Math Literacy in the Upper Elementary Grades” at the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching, a recognized national leader in professional development programming for teachers.

CULLOWHEE—North Carolina teachers joined the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching for “Math Foundations” to look at the foundational knowledge needed to provide all students with appropriate mathematics instruction.

The five-day professional development program was led by Dr. Chris Cain, a professor at Mars Hill University. It is part of the offerings from NCCAT, a recognized national leader in professional development programming for teachers.

The North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching, a nationally recognized leader in teacher professional development, is offering teachers several programs for professional development to start out 2018.

NCCAT has identified and targeted professional development priorities for North Carolina educators. We solicited and listened to district curriculum leaders and teachers while incorporating state legislation and licensure updates when determining our programming this year.

The North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching is offering several programs to help mathematics teachers develop teaching methods that better enable mathematics students to learn. For more on NCCAT programs visit www.nccat.org.
