Strategies in STEM: Engaging Students in Academic Discourse

Join us September 23 in Cullowhee for this program. Students in the 21st century classroom need multiple opportunities to interact with content and their peers in meaningful and impactful ways. By utilizing academic discourse strategies, educators become facilitators of the curriculum while students increase ownership of their own learning. This Focus Friday session will provide low-prep, easy to use strategies that educators can implement in any lesson to support positive student interactions.

Coming to NCCAT - Creating Math Communities And Connecting Learners

Now more than ever, students need classroom cultures that value their strengths. Join this seminar to learn strategies that build cultures of active care and engage students in mathematical thinking. We will reflect on our current classroom structures and learn new avenues to empower math learners. Sessions will focus on building mathematical identities, engaging students in learning, and authentic problem-solving. Time will be included for teachers to reinvent their syllabus for the upcoming school year. This session is intended for math teachers in grades 4-9.

Join NCCAT in April for program "It’s Time: Empowering Problem-Solvers" in Cullowhee. Now more than ever, it is time to empower our math learners with strategies that honor students’ strengths and propel problem-solving forward. In this session, we will discuss student-centered practices that move learning beyond simply finding the “correct answer.” We will learn strategies for problem-solving instructional routines as well as protocols to facilitate tasks in the math classroom. Authentic problem-solving needs engagement, supports, and encouragement.

Deeper dive into the Science of Reading program with NCCAT

Participants will delve into current Science of Reading research to support learning around the essential components of reading instruction. Our work will include discovering the tenets of structured literacy to ensure all children have access to effective reading instruction. Please join us as we spend quality time looking closely into best instructional practices that support the Science of Reading. This program is intended for classroom teachers in the kindergarten through the fifth-grade classroom.

Honored Education Scholarship Application Process Open

Applications for 2022 are now being accepted. Please complete your application by April 30, 2022. Honored Educator Scholarships (HES) provide an opportunity for selected teachers to attend an NCCAT seminar of their choice. An HES covers all costs associated with participation in a five-day NCCAT seminar, including program materials, instruction, food, lodging, transportation, and substitute teacher.  The honored educator also receives $250 for use in the classroom.

NCCAT Math Badge Open Now For Participant Registration

NCCAT is pleased to offer our K-5 Math Badge Series for North Carolina teachers and coaches interested in strengthening math instruction in their classrooms and schools. Can’t wait to see you at NCCAT! Attend all four and earn an NCCAT math badge or attend individual sessions to deepen your own understanding of the necessities of effective math instruction.

Success from the Start registration for January open

Open to teachers in their first, second, or third year of teaching, this program supports motivated beginning teachers by strengthening their knowledge base and classroom expertise. Teachers will develop their craft by understanding how to teach to the depth of their standards and differentiating for multiple levels of learners. Beginning educators will also have the opportunities to refine their teaching philosophies and class expectations.
