CULLOWHEE - Educators from Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools completed a successful Teacher Leadership Institute at NCCAT’s Cullowhee campus. The essential components of this NCCAT program cover the concept of leadership before drilling into the specifics of teacher leadership. Educators explore the elements of leadership, teacher leadership potential, personality traits, group dynamics, mentoring, problem solving, teacher leadership standards, and implementing teacher leadership roles in the school setting.

CULLOWHEE - The North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching is pleased to announce the NCCAT Beginning Teacher of the Year Award. The award program is designed to honor and retain excellent North Carolina teachers and education leaders among the 7000 beginning teachers recruited annually.

“NCCAT is a long-time supporter of teaching excellence and a natural expression of that support is to recognize the best of the beginning teachers in our state,” NCCAT Executive Director M. Brock Womble explained.

CULLOWHEE - Take the indoor classroom outside and bring STEM to life. Using various tools such as GooseChase, Geocaching, iNaturalist, and others, learn to use the “outside” as your main STEM tool.

OCRACOKE - North Carolina’s 2018-2019 Teachers of the Year joined the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching for “Teacher Leadership Institute: Teacher of the Year” in Ocracoke July 8-12.

Instructional Coaches join NCCAT on September 20^th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Cullowhee to learn about supporting teachers with instructional practices in your schools. This one-day professional development "14975: Focus Friday - Coaching Instructional Initiatives" will focus on best practices for implementing instructional initiatives, and strategies for leading professional learning communities that empower teachers.

CULLOWHEE—For the 12th year, the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching's western campus hosted the Professional Learning Summer Institute for the incoming cohort of Kenan Fellows from June 17-21.

CULLOWHEE—Educators can learn and share during a day of professional development at EdCampWNC Saturday, Oct. 12 at the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching.

CULLOWHEE - Governor Roy Cooper has appointed four new members to the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching Board of Trustees.

Newly appointed trustees are Dr. Catherine Edmonds of Merry Hill, Dr. Terry W. Worrell of Greensboro, Justin Parmenter of Charlotte, and Julie Paige Pittman of Rutherfordton. All four were appointed to serve until October 31, 2021.
