The North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching is currently taking applications from foreign language or ESL teachers for the Luz M. Frye Honored Educator Scholarship (HES) for FY 2018–2019.
Normally, applications are taken from January 1 thru April 30th. However, due to a lack of applications from foreign language or ESL teachers for academic year 2018–2019 the deadline has been extended.
CULLOWHEE—The Smoky Mountain Math Teachers’ Circle (SMMTC), a professional learning community for mathematics teachers in Western North Carolina, gathered for its fourth annual Summer Math Camp July 1–3 at the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching.
CULLOWHEE—Teachers from across North Carolina took part in “New to the Exceptional Children’s Classroom: Surviving and Thriving” in Cullowhee June 25–29 at the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching, a recognized national leader in professional development programming for teachers.
Exceptional Children (EC) teachers have all of the traditional needs of beginning teachers, plus a lot more—and often those additional needs incur the greatest need for support. This program was open to teachers in their first, second or third year of EC teaching.
CULLOWHEE—The Kenan Fellows Program from Teacher Leadership held its 2018 Summer Professional Learning Institute at the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching, a recognized national leader in professional development programming for teachers,
In May, 25 North Carolina public school educators were named 2018–19 Kenan Fellows. They were selected from an applicant pool of more than 70 educators following a competitive application process. The new Fellows began their year together at NCCAT on June 18–22.
At NCCAT, we strive to give teachers the tools that they need to support North Carolina students. In addition to our residential, face-to-face programs, we provide a number of online, self-paced courses. All PreK–12th grade North Carolina public school teachers are eligible. CULLOWHEE—North Carolina educators have several opportunities from September through January to attend the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT), a recognized national leader in professional development programming for teachers.
Sam Pattillo, a highly regarded educator with 30 years of experience in Swain County schools, has been named Chief Administrative Officer at North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching by Executive Director Dr. M. Brock Womble.
CULLOWHEE—The North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching presents a program designed for elementary grade teachers and literacy.
“Reading, Writing, and Ready by Third Grade: Early Grades Literacy Instruction” takes place August 20–23 in Ocracoke. Literacy instruction is as difficult as it is essential. This program will provide early grades teachers with a complement of research-based tools and strategies to help answer some of their more burning questions:
