To help students to decode more complex, multisyllabic words, teach them a word analysis strategy.

The North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching, a recognized national leader in professional development, will open Summer Registration in mid February. Visit www.nccat.org for schedule information. Applicants are encouraged to register as soon as possible to ensure a spot.

NCCAT Online is freely available to all North Carolina licensed educators at no additional cost to you or your district. NCCAT Online Courses are short, self-paced modules where participants can earn 3, 5, or 10 contact hours, depending on the number of assignments participants are asked to complete.

CULLOWHEE—Jean Paul Powell, a distinguished educator who first proposed the idea of the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching, passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2017. She was 98.

A visitation will be held from 7–8 p.m. Friday, May 19, 2017, at Crumpler Funeral Home, 131 Harris Avenue, Raeford. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Scotia Village, 2200 Elm Street, Laurinburg. A graveside service will be held 4 p.m. Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Clinton City Cemetery. The family will receive friends also after the service at the gravesite.

CULLOWHEE—The North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching has added “Technology Tools To Enhance STEM” to the list of offerings at the Cullowhee campus.

The program, with course number 14359, will be held March 27–30  at NCCAT, a nationally recognized leader in professional development.

CULLOWHEE—“Schoolwork at home and homework at school” is one of the many definitions of a flipped classroom. Explore the history, styles, and benefits of flipping your classroom, including practical, hands-on ways to create, curate, and differentiate video content with the program “Flipping Instruction Without Flipping Out: The Digital Learning Classroom.”

The program takes place in Cullowhee at the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching, a recognized national leader in professional development programming for North Carolina teachers.
