Registration for the summer professional development programs with the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) is open. Applicants are encouraged to register as soon as possible to ensure a spot. Programs are available to North Carolina educators at the Cullowhee and Ocracoke campuses, online and with NCCAT fellows visiting school districts.

CULLOWHEE (March 10, 2015)—North Carolina educators have opportunities throughout the summer to make sure the learning never stops by attending the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT), a recognized national leader in professional development programming for teachers.

NCCAT understands that every school situation is different.

While many schools find our campus-based trainings to be very effective, we realize that, by providing onsite training at your school or district facility, our School-Based programming will

- Be more convenient

- Have an immediate impact on a larger number of your teachers

NCCAT has faculty members available to assist with planning and facilitation in the center of the state, too.

CULLOWHEE (February 24, 2015)—Educators gathered together at the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching January 26–29 in Cullowhee to learn more about Google Chromebooks—ahead of the rollout of the devices in Davidson County Schools.

Instructors from Martin County and Transylvania County, which have had similar rollouts of the devices, were on hand to share tips and answer questions. Greg Cline, chief technology officer for Davidson County Schools, says the school system has a three-year plan for dispersing the small laptops.

The program "Bring-Your-Own-Technology: Digital Learning" is coming up soon in Cullowhee. Join us March 10-13 to take part in this learning opportunity.

Following a 2014 that saw major initiatives in digital learning the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching Digital Learning is focused on creating more online resources for educators.

CULLOWHEE (January 6, 2015)—A meeting of the board of trustees of the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 15, at the Public School Forum Building in Raleigh.

CULLOWHEE—The 2013–14 North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching annual report has been released. NCCAT remains focused on impacting students, supporting teachers, and responding to state initiatives. NCCAT served more teachers in 2013–14 than in fiscal year 2012-13.

In 2013–2014, NCCAT served more than 100 school districts in North Carolina. In the center’s history, NCCAT has served every county and district in the state of North Carolina.

Responding to a request from North Carolina educators we were pleased to host EdCamp WNC on Nov. 15 in Cullowhee. It’s exciting for me as a life-long educator when I think about the 54 teachers and administrators who took part of their weekend after long hours during the week, to explore how to use digital learning to improve education for the children of our state.

CULLOWHEE—More than 92 educators applied to take part in EdCamp WNC, Nov. 14 on the campus of the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching, a national leader in professional development.

EdCamps, which began in 2010, are not like a traditional conference with a set schedule determined months ahead of the event. This professional development model has an agenda that is created at the start of the event by the participants to fit their needs. Participants are encouraged to attend sessions that are best for them.
