In early November, the North Carolina Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa’s first cohort of Emerging Leaders gathered together in Cullowhee for a time of reflection, growth and renewal. NCPDK recognized an opportunity where the organization could offer service to educators in North Carolina by coming to the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching.
We were honored to have NC Teacher of the Year Keana Triplett and the Appalachian State University Reich College of Education Appalachian College of Education Scholars (ACES) with us recently at Ocracoke!
A huge thank you from NCCAT to Dr. Richard Thompson. He has served NCCAT very well as Executive Director since 2013, and kept us focused on a mission of providing high-quality professional development for the great teachers of North Carolina.

The North Carolina State Board of Education today recognized seven public schools for exemplary leadership and instruction in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education. These schools were the second set of schools to be recognized under the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction’s (NCDPI) STEM Recognition Program.
Happy to see NCCAT alumna Katee Johnson recognized as North Carolina Elementary Music Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Johnson teachers at Cullowhee Valley School in Jackson County. Congratulations!
