Participats join NCCAT to work on National Boards

NCCAT is very excited to have teachers joining us starting Friday, February 4th for the National Board Certification program. They will join other initial candidates for a weekend of facilitated support and collaboration as they work on components two-four of your National Board certification submission. Participants are expected to have a draft of at least one component prior to attendance. Best practices for completing components will be shared. Performance-based Measurements (PBMs) provide Career and Technical Education teachers a tool to evaluate student achievement and mastery of course concepts. Understanding how to utilize the PBM as a dynamic tool to improve student outcomes is essential to maximizing learning in the CTE classroom. This program is designed to support CTE teachers implementing a PBM as the required proof of learning for their course(s). Throughout the week, participants will learn how to use the PBM as an instructional tool, discover models for monitoring student progress, and identify strategies to maximize student learning and outcomes.

We will learn strategies for concept mapping, double-entry journals, and summarization to strengthen reading in the science classroom.

16104 The Tandem Approach to Reading and Writing Instruction - Virtual

Reading and writing work in tandem as a child becomes literate. Instruction in both should focus on the mutually supportive relationship between reading and writing. We will learn how to strengthen literacy instruction with strategies that focus on how to turn reading strategies into exciting writing opportunities. Join us from 4:00-5:00 pm virtually as we explore how to flow between reading and writing lessons in your elementary classroom.

Developing essential vocabulary is more than just memorizing words. What are these important number sense terms and how do we use precise language to develop understandings? Join us from 4pm-5:15pm for this virtual session to learn strategies for teaching equivalency in the math classroom and discover ways to use precise language for K-6 foundational math vocabulary. This session is designed for math teachers and instructional coaches in grades K-6.

Martin County teacher receives NCCAT Scholarship

Congratulations to Paige Hart of Rodgers Elementary School in the Martin County Schools NC district on receiving the NCCAT Eugene and Jean Rogers Honored Educator Scholarship. It allows the Martin County Teacher of the Year to attend an NCCAT program of his or her choice. The scholarship covers all costs associated with your participation in an NCCAT program including: instruction; food and lodging on the NCCAT campus; program materials; travel to and from the campus from the teacher’s home and payment for the substitute teacher while they attend NCCAT.

Beginning Teachers program in Ocracoke

Thank you to these teachers from across North Carolina who joined us for "Success from the Start" in Ocracoke. Teachers developed their craft by understanding how to teach to the depth of their standards and differentiating for multiple levels of learners. Beginning educators had the opportunities to refine their teaching philosophies and class expectations. Within this seminar, teachers identified their most immediate needs for their classrooms, and time was spent exploring solutions to those needs. Great job! Thank you for all you do!
