What is an entrepreneur? How do Family and Consumer Sciences Education and Business, Finance, and Marketing teachers help students explore connecting their creative interests to entrepreneurship? We will learn about career opportunities in a small tourist town and talk to business owners to learn how their entrepreneurial spirit launched their businesses. We will connect how learning local environments plays an important role in a successful business. Throughout the week, teachers will create a cross curricula project to utilize in their classrooms that addresses curriculum standards. Teachers will also learn how to engage and develop the entrepreneurial spirit with their students in a way that brings classroom skills to life.

Honored Education Scholarship Application Process Open

Applications for 2022 are now being accepted. Please complete your application by April 30, 2022. Honored Educator Scholarships (HES) provide an opportunity for selected teachers to attend an NCCAT seminar of their choice. An HES covers all costs associated with participation in a five-day NCCAT seminar, including program materials, instruction, food, lodging, transportation, and substitute teacher.  The honored educator also receives $250 for use in the classroom.

NCCAT Literacy Badge starts Jan. 28th - apply today

NCCAT will hold a six-session series focused on a research-to-practice exploration of the foundational skills in early literacy starting January 28th. Effective instruction in these fundamental components holds the key to life-long learning for every child in your classroom. Attend all six and earn an NCCAT literacy badge or attend individual sessions to deepen your own understanding of the building blocks of beginning reading.

Twenty-seven teachers from across North Carolina have been selected as finalists for the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) 2022 Prudential NC Beginning Teacher of the Year Award in honor of their dedication, innovation, and ability to inspire students to achieve.

Is your school interested in using the NC STEM Schools of Distinction Rubric for school improvement or to receive the STEM School of Distinction designation?  During this planning institute schools will review the overarching principles of the Rubric, consider what each principle means in the context of their individual school, assess the school’s readiness, draft a strategic plan and develop next steps for school improvement or to apply for the NC STEM Schools of Distinction. The institute will include whole group discussion to learn from best practices across the state and individual school team planning. 

Who should attend:  School teams of three to four (including a required administrator). Schools which currently have a STEM focus or have previously applied for but not received the STEM School of Distinction designation will benefit the most from this institute.   Placement decisions will be determined by the facilitators.  Please direct questions to Lisa Rhoades at [email protected]
